ANNA FOTHERINGHAM (Blue VW golf)).
About a year ago I began my training to become an Approved Driving Instructor under the expert guidance of Kate Pearson at Green Driver Training. I chose this school for my instruction because of its philosophy of coaching young learners to become considerate and safe drivers rather than simply teaching them to pass a test.
It was whilst sitting alongside the oldest of my three children as he practiced his driving that I became interested in becoming a driving instructor myself. This was a tough job as a parent and I wanted to find out how the professionals did it!
In my previous life I had given workshops and training seminars in the industrial laboratory environment after graduating from Durham University with a Chemistry degree. Fourteen years spent abroad raising a family in Germany, the USA and then China were great but it was time to come home to the UK and the brilliant British creativity and sense of humour that I had missed! I spent time studying Nutrition at Chester University; a topic along with dietetics that I am very interested in. I was filling my days happily walking the dog, swimming regularly to keep fit and enjoying family and friends. But I was missing a challenge and was ready to get back to work.
I passed both Part 1 and 2 ADI exams at my first attempt and have had 40 hours individual instructor training with Kate for my Part 3 and final qualification. I am currently working on a pink license.
Your driving license is a brilliant qualification but learning to drive can be both daunting and exciting in equal measure. My experience has shown me that good humour and patience are needed and my teaching style will adapt to you so that you learn in collaboration with me. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to get you driving!
See you on the roads around Chester soon,
KIM WILSON (Red Renault Clio).
My name is Kim Wilson, I’m married to Gary and have three gorgeous boys. We also have a black cockapoo dog called Bruno, who keeps me fit and active.
I’ve lived on the Wirral all my life; there’s no better place to live in my eyes. We have a fantastic city on one side and the beauty of North Wales on the other. I love spending time in North Wales. We regularly take Bruno on long walks whilst admiring the fantastic scenery of Snowdonia. I equally love the buzz of Liverpool city centre; having delicious meals out, a few cocktails with friends and, not forgetting, watching the beautiful LFC play of course!
I passed my driving test 1st time as a young 17 year old and my love of driving began. In 1996 I qualified as a driving instructor at Crosby test centre, and started my dream of teaching people to drive! But with two young boys and my husband Gary working away Monday to Friday, it just wasn’t the right time to give my heart and soul to what I loved doing.
I started working as the Cook in Charge at a primary school feeding 140 pupils on a daily basis. I loved every minute of it, especially the holidays, which fitted in with my growing family. Baby number 3 was soon on his way! I worked hard and gained level 2 and level 3 BTech Diplomas in Food Preparation. I was passionate about Jamie Oliver’s struggle to change the way our children thought about food and always encouraged the healthier eating option.
2017 saw a time for a change. With the boys all grown up, my time and chance to embark on my driving instructor career came again. After being on the scene of a catastrophic, heart breaking accident outside my house in November 2015, my thoughts turned to educating new drivers. I hope to teach not only how to be a safe driver, but how to be a more eco-minded and responsive motorist. So here I am, very excited to be working with Kate and Laura at Green Driver Training.
LAURA COHEN-SMITH (Black Vauxhall Corsa).
Laura has worked extensively with St John Ambulance with the Regional Driving Team and is a fully qualified DVSA approved driving instructor. She recently qualified as a DVSA fleet registered trainer in March 2016. Here is her biography:
My name is Laura and I am passionate about driving.
Having passed my driving test in 1996, I went on to take my advanced driving test with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) 3 years later. Since then, I have had an extremely wide and varied history of driving in many different vehicles (both 2 and 4 wheeled), different conditions and different situations, including being an Approved Emergency Driver with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
I decided I wanted to share my skills and experiences and thought the best way to do this would be to undertake training as a driving instructor which I started in 2013, prior to this I have also been part of the Regional Driver Training Team for St John Ambulance.
I am excited to be working with my school friend, Kate Pearson at Green Driver Training. We are a small, friendly and professional driving school with many many years driving experience between us.
I am 39, married with two dogs and a horse to look after and enjoy driving blue light emergency vehicles for St. John Ambulance in what little spare time I have.
I am patient, calm, friendly and reliable and I feel these are key attributes in a driving instructor and I look forward to teaching you soon.
KATE PEARSON (owner ) (Black Audi A3).
Kate recently passed her ORDIT (Official Register of Driving Instructor Training) inspection for premises and training in May 2016 and
passed her latest standards check in July 2015 which was graded at an 'A' (the highest grade awarded to ADI's).
I qualified as an approved driving instructor (ADI) in 2004 (having been on my trainee license for a year in Central London). Before qualifying, I delivered and collected hire cars in and around London in zones 1 & 2 through to 6 and the Home Counties and had the pleasure of driving a fleet of vehicles from category B (car) to category A (7.5 tonne) in every traffic condition you could imagine. I love driving, as well as the freedom it gives - and with this experience I decided to move into driving instruction. I have held my full license since 1995.
Having moved back to my home town of Wirral in 2004, I worked for two other driving schools before setting up on my own as 'Kate's Driving School' and have enjoyed over ten years teaching learners to qualify for their driving license. Having returned from maternity leave at the beginning of 2014, I decided to update my instructor and driving skills and qualified as both QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework) Assessor and Fleet Trainer (DVSA). I Currently work as an external fleet trainer for Ocado and also independently train potential driving instructors up to their final qualification. I can also enable qualification of BTECs in the driving industry. Moreover, I continue to train my lovely learners in the hope some of my real driving experience will be transferred. Together wIth these new training skills, a focus on eco-driving and many years of experience combined, I decided to re-name my school 'Green Driver Training™'.
Before the driver training industry got a hold of me, I trained as a professional actress (acting name of Kate Henry) and still keep my hand in where time allows. I am patient, friendly and calm and together with my old school mate and school hockey team member, Laura, we hope to offer you a little more for your money with quality training our first priority.
